Curtains are accessories that are both functional and beautifying. Every room can benefit from some kind of window dressing. You can use blinds, curtains or shades. Each of them has its own advantages and attractions.
Basically you can have pencil pleat curtains, tab top curtains or eyelet curtains to choose for your windows. Pencil pleat curtains give a more formal look whereas the eyelet kinds of curtains are more informal looking with wider folds. Tab tops are very simple and they have even wilder folds and these are the simplest form of curtains.
You can have lightweight curtains or heavy silk and silk blend curtains. Lightweights are generally inner curtains made of voiles, and nets or the prettier looking cotton lace. These are mostly translucent kind of curtains letting in light but providing privacy. Many a time with outer curtains made of natural silk or poly silk blends which can be quite heavy, inner curtains of cotton lace are used.
Pencil pleat curtains can be run on tracks or hung up from poles. You need to arrange just right so that flat fabric portions stay inside and the pencil pleats are visible. When you tie up for fixing the width, it should not be too tight. After some days, the pleats will line up nice and easy.
When you are hanging curtains for your windows, hang them a little away from the window panes – sometimes condensation happens along the glass and your curtains may become wet. Curtains drape well if they have linings. They also last longer and stay better with linings.
Matching or contrasting tie backs or holdbacks will make the curtains look prettier and make them stay put without swinging about. You can use scarves, swathes, pelmet, top treatments and valences to make the windows look more beautifully dressed.
